1:57 S2000 by Tomica

Tomica has released a good number of variations of the S2000 in 1:59 scale. between its original release in 1999 and 2010.

As of November 2023, the Hondacurator Collection had the following 2000 Honda S2000 by Tomica:

Tomica’s 1:57 scaled Honda S2000 come in three wheel variations and were made in either Japan, China or Vietnam.  Headlights are are typically chromed and taillights are painted.  Some variations have a bit more taillight detail and nicely printed “H” logos on the front and rear. Some have the wider wheels with the chrome (or gold lips).

Yellow – Original regular issue (JP)

Released in 1999, the first Tomica S2000 had a body-colored dash.

    

Yellow – later regular issue (VN)

Subsequent versions, made in Vietnam, had a more accurate black plastic dash and also came with 5-spoke wheels instead of the original’s 4-spoke.

Silver – High Speed Runners Group boxed-set exclusive

One of the more detailed releases of the S2000 was the silver one that came with the High Speed Runners Group boxed set.

White – Powered by Honda Sports Car Set exclusive

This white version was exclusive to the Powered by Honda boxed set issued to commemorate Honda’s 50th anniversary of its founding. The set also includes unique and more detailed versions of a yellow S800, a blue NSX and a black Beat.

Black – Honda Direct Marketing

A rarer, limited edition of 3000 from Honda Direct Marketing, in black with one of the more detailed renditions.

Red – Desktop Resort (VN)

The more regular version with less taillight detail, no S2000 badge on the fender and the skinnier 4 spoke wheels. This early variation was exclusive with the “Desktop Resort” diorama.

Red – Tomica Amusement

A keychain version – note that the wheel lip is chrome instead of the gold lip on the other red one.

Red – Tomica Can Series 4

From the Tomica Can Series No. 4, a red S2000 in its own non-descript Tomica box was inserted into a special can.

Chrome silver – Tomica Can Series 4

A couple of months after the original release of the Can Series 4, chrome silver variations were added to the release with a 1:30 chance of getting one.

Champagne

A Tomica factory specially boxed champagne colored S2000 that came with some candy. The outer box is metal containing 3 candy pouches and a white/blue boxed S2000.

        

Chrome Silver – early 30th Anniversary Release (CN)

A silver version with the Tomica logo decal on the doors from a lottery box.

 

Yellow – Gran Toursimo 2 boxed set exclusive

This is the Gran Tourismo version – not sure if it came packaged with the game or if they were available separately.

     

Silver – Toys Dream Project Set exclusive (VN)

Released in May 2000 to commemorate Tomica’s 30th Anniversary at the major expo in Toyko.

Red – 30th Anniversary Tomica Expo (Ikebukuro)

Released in May 2000 to commemorate Tomica’s 30th Anniversary at the mini expo in Ikeburo.

     

Blue/black – 2001 Tokyo Motor Show

The 2001 Tokyo Motor Show commemorative edition with special box.

         

Black/blue – 2023 Osaka Motor Show

The 2003 Osaka Motor Show commemorative edition S2000 with gold lip rims

Red – Tomica Event Model

One of the later (final?) S2000 released as event model. A commemorative edition co-boxed with a white S800

 

Blue “Libra” – Toys R Us Horoscope Series

A Toys R Us custom edition keychain   

While there were various S2000s with Disney-related designs, two of them were actually commissioned by Disney for sale at Disneyland. The rest were part of Tomica’s Disney series.

Red “Mickey Mouse” – Disney “Love Tomica Edition”

A Mickey version in a special cardboard diorama box with a Mickey figure.

White “Mickey & Minnie” – Disney “Love Tomica Edition”

A Mickey and Minnie version in white/pink.

Blue “Stitch” – Tomica Disney Series

In powder blue.

Pink “Stitch” – Tomica Disney Series

Unlike the Beat that was launched with a different color using the same number, the D-30 pink/red S2000 had its own number.

Blue – Takashimaya exclusive

This is a promotional custom variation from the Yamashiroya department store chain in Japan.
